by Scott Yeomans
After 22 years of service as Chief, Curt Dowling chose not to run for reelection in 2004. Curt was the longest serving chief in the history of the department. Under his leadership the department moved into a new fire house and saw the arrival of 5 trucks, 2 ambulances, a boat and saw the department respond to over 6,000 calls. The department selected long time Deputy Chief Shawn Covell to fill the Chief’s position. Ron Mike Jr. was elevated to the position of Deputy Chief.
A new vehicle to replace the 1981 Ranger rescue truck (R115) was ordered in April, 2004. This new truck, a Ford F550 chassis with a body by Extraction Equipment Company and costing $112,500, was purchased for the department and donated to the town by "Benefactor." It was put in service in Nov., 2004.

In September, 2008 it was determined that it would cost less to get a new boat then it would to repair the old one. After some shopping around, the Town purchased a boat for $2,800 on 12/31/2008. The new boat was received and put in service in May of 2009. It is a 2004 Achilles 14 footer.
