A History of the Andover Volunteer Fire Department 1938 - 2013
by Scott Yeomans
In May of 1988 the Andover Volunteer Fire Department Association held two events to celebrate the 50th anniversary of its founding. First, on the 14th, a dinner dance was held at Vito’s in Bolton. This was followed on the 21st by a parade. The parade kicked off at 10am with over 60 fire departments represented, as well as 14 bands, many floats and other marching units. The parade terminated at the town ball fields on Long Hill Road where food, drink and many activities were available for both the parade participants and the spectators. These two events coupled with the publishing of an anniversary book, culminated several years of work by many department members to make this landmark event a huge success. The association raised over $20,000 for this celebration, with the actual expenses coming in at slightly less than what was raised.
